Out of all the slices that exist in the world of baked goods, chocolate caramel would have to be my favourite. I find you just simply cannot go wrong with a crisp biscuit base and a thick layer of delicious caramel, topped off with a coating of chocolate.
Walk into any bakery in New Zealand and without a doubt, there will be chocolate caramel slice sitting behind the glass, just waiting to tempt you; it is a true Kiwi classic.
As an avid lover of all things chocolate, I definitely put my weight behind this slice as a simple afternoon treat that is popular with just about anybody who can appreciate the flavours. On the rare days when we were blessed with money topurchase our lunch from the school canteen, chocolate rough slice was always a predominant feature on my order. I regret nothing. A layer of soft chocolate icing atop a crisp chocolate base… perfection. Well worth the sticky fingers. (Note: 1 cup = 1 US cup)
Super quick. Super easy. Super good.
Better yet, you can choose whether you want to use orange for something sweeter, or lemon for something with a bit more of a tang… or you could make both. Like me. Because what is better than having one slice? Why, having two slices of course.
This is a favourite to make because aside from the taste, it leaves a nice, fruity aroma in the kitchen. Orange and coconut = bliss! A new perfume idea, perhaps?
…I know, I should stick to baking and not perfumery. (Note: 1 cup = 1 US cup)
